Dr. George Washington CarverFranklin Springs Family Media has released a compelling documentary charting the life of Dr. George Washington Carver. As a former slave himself, Carver was not only a botany and agriculture teacher to the children of ex-slaves, but championed methods which helped poor farmers consider alternatives to planting cotton to such soil-enhancing, protein-rich crops as soybeans and peanuts and to teach them self-sufficiency and conservation.

George Washington Carver: An Uncommon Way depicts Carver’s practical and benevolent approach to science was based on a profound Christian faith to which he attributed all his accomplishments. He always believed that faith and inquiry were not only compatible paths to knowledge, but that their interaction was essential if truth in all its manifold complexity was to be approximated.

Always modest about his success, he saw himself as a vehicle through which nature, God and the natural bounty of the land could be better

understood and appreciated for the good of all people.

The documentary is narrated by well-known author, conference speaker and preaching pastor at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Tex.,Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr. and includes perspectives of noted historians Peter Burchard, John Perry, George Grant, among others.

“Carver's greatest overlooked contribution in my opinion was his love and appreciation for creation and creativity. He was a true scientist who was more than a lab coat and a microscope,” said Baucham.

An Uncommon Way is co-produced and directed by Christian film mainstay Ken Carpenter (Dove Award winner in 2007 and 2008 for Best Long-form Videos for Mark Schultz and Amy Grant). During the annual NRB convention in Nashville Carpenter told Christian Press “We’re always on the lookout for stories that cast a strong vision of faith in action. I had heard only half of Carver’s story in school; we wanted this film to provide a more complete picture of this extraordinary life."

Christian Press believes George Washington Carver: An Uncommon Way is a great choice for audiences of all ages. Click here to purchase this DVD.
