“It appears that 2011 is the year of the protest – both foreign and domestic”, according to Julia Edwards from the National Journal.  I agree.  The Arab Spring and Union uprisings are the face of many.  The United States has seen hundreds of thousands protest across the country including the states of New York, Ohio and Wisconsin.  Across the globe we have seen protests in countries throughout the Middle East and in Europe.   

On Nov. 3, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to begin debate on a bill that would effectively repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), opening the gate to same-sex marriage nationwide.

“It will be an end run around all the states that have decided to protect marriage,” said CitizenLink Federal Issues Analyst Ashley Horne.

More than 40 states have passed either laws or constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman; earlier this year, a national poll revealed 62 percent of Americans think that’s the only way it should be defined.

Residents of a small Kansas town are trying to understand why its community has been plagued with a large number of suicides over the past several years. Last week a small group of devoted Christians in Valley Center, Kansas recently took their plea to a higher court. AFN’s Russ Jones was there and has this report.
